Civilian Respirator

Civilian Respirator

Throughout WW2, the Australian Government mainly issued three different types of respirators to the civilian populace
This article is about the Civilian Respirator

Issued to civilians en mass, the aptly named "Civilian Respirator" (Sometimes referred as the "British Civilian Respirator") is one of the more common mask on the WW2 Gas Mask market, alongside the M1A2-1-1 Noncombatant mask and both Mk.IV and Mk.V GSRs.

The respirator was manufactured as cheap as possible, with it being made out of thin sheet rubber with a  single window of non-inflammable and transparent material acting as the respirator's lenses.

The filter for this respirator uses a simple non-return valve which consisted of a rubber disc attached to said filter. This non-return valve prevents air from exhaling from passing back through the intake.

Exhaled air is forced out of the mask by lifting the thin rubber of the respirator at its edges, so that theoretically speaking, an outlet valve is not necessary.
